An Exclusive Interview

The New York Daily Tribune had the privilege of interviewing two Whig senators, Senator Reverdy Johnson and Senator William Woodbridge. The two senators provided intriguing viewpoints on the debate in the US senate thus far and offered their perspectives on the issues faced in debate and in resolution crafting.

Senator Johnson and Senator Woodbridge both uphold the values of the Whig party, with strong opposition to slavery and to the rapid westward expansion embodied in Manifest Destiny. However, these two senators have also shown their sensibility in understanding the need for a compromise, stating in debate that a decision will never be made without equal compromise. The two acknowledge that both the Democrats and the Whigs would need to forsake a little to arrive at the best decision for the Country and thus urge fellow senators to consider more options before coming to a decision.

On a whole, after 2 days of debate, the US Senate seems to be digging even deeper into the annexation of Texas, with senators providing a plethora of solutions to issues one may not have even thought of. The New York Daily Tribune looks forward to seeing more of such behaviour in the council sessions to come.
