Chernobyl Disaster: The beginning of a solution to the nuclear power plant crisis

In the aftermath of an explosion at the nearby nuclear facility, the Soviet government has begun a large-scale crisis management programme. Medical workers, military troops, and fallout management personnel have been seen entering the small town and have begun evacuating civilians from the area

Background and Extent of damage

The Chernobyl nuclear plant accident occurred on Saturday 26 April 1986, at the No. 4 reactor in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, near the city of Pripyat in the north of the Ukrainian SSR in the Soviet Union. Thirty-one people died within a few weeks of the accident from the initial steam explosion, exposure to radiation and thermal burns.

Measures taken to provide support to those affected

In the aftermath of an explosion at the nearby nuclear facility, the Soviet government has begun a large-scale crisis management programme. Medical workers, military troops, and fallout management personnel have been seen entering the small town and have begun evacuating civilians from the area. The government also provided food, medical aid and housing for the people. As per the preliminary investigations, the Crisis Committee has ascertained that the cause of the disaster was due to an American spy sent by the CIA. This is unacceptable, we must not let those devils from the West take over us for our standing as a global superpower and shake up our motherland.

The government has provided relief care to the affected like medical help and food to fulfil their basic needs for the time-being. However, these are merely short-term needs and more needs to be done to satisfy them in the long-term. Financial assistance should be provided to the victims who have lost their property in the nuclear power plant disaster. Additionally, more needs to be done to resolve the rising unrest and displeasure amongst the people to ensure that the public will regain their confidence in the communist government. In fact, the government did not act promptly and should have come to a decision sooner to reduce the impacts of the disaster.

The lives that were lost and the detrimental effects of the explosion cannot be reversed. Such large-scale destruction must not happen to our Motherland again. We have to look at the root of the issue. The cause. It has been confirmed that the committee found that the person responsible for the nuclear power plant explosion was a CIA agent sent by the US. Now, whose fault is it really? Why did the US suddenly plan such an attack to harm our motherland? It is no wonder due to the stupid Glasnost policy introduced by Gorbachev, the man himself. The policy allows for greater contact between Soviet citizens and the Western world, particularly the United States. Now, observe the results. Destruction of our motherland. Western infiltration which will jeopardise the safety of the USSR. We must relax the policies and strengthen military power if we want to have relations with the West. How could Gorbachev trust our common enemy without thinking of the consequences which may erupt in the future. In the end, who will be responsible for the attack which led to a nuclear plant explosion?

In conclusion, we express deep condolences to the families of the affected and the government is doing their best they can to provide relief care and mitigate the damages to our economy. I seek that you will realise the truth of Glasnost and not lead the motherland to its destruction.
